Stock Description: Here we have an exciting opportunity to acquire a large number of in milk spring calving cows from one herd, on the market due to change in milk buyer and moving to autumn block calving. The cows would be best described as Kiwi cross cows, predominantly LIC breeding with Genus black and white sires in more recent years. The mature live weight will be around 500kg. The cows that are for sale will be the most saleable group in the herd all in lactations 1-5 and all milking on 4 quarters with low cell counts and negative for Johnes. They are still milking well, 15 litres a day with nearly 9.5% milk solids. They are due to start calving early February with the early ones in calf to Genus dairy AI and later ones to beef.
Production Capacity: The herd is managed to maximise milk from grass producing high milk solids to maximise pence per litre income. The cows are extensively grazed and only receive 700kg parlour feed. Cubicle housed in winter and fed grass silage. The aim was for high solids which they certainly are producing 5.12% fat and 3.91% protein was last years annual average. 474 kg milk solids sold per cow.
Age & Lactation: The herd is in general a young herd with only cows in lactations 1-5 being offered for sale.
TB Status: The herd is located in the low risk area of Wales, there has never been an issue on farm.
Health Status: The herd is Johnes monitored and has strict protocols in place no cows that have had a positive Johnes reading are being offered for sale. The herd was BVD tag and tested but due to never having a positive reading this has been stopped in recent years. The herd is vaccinated for IBR.
Unique Selling Point: Large number of quality cows from one farm in a low risk TB area. The most marketable cows are being sold not the poor performers.
