When is the best time to sell your dairy herd?
The answer is always when you are ready to. Selling your dairy herd is a big decision when you’ve dealt with the cows every day to not have them on your farm. Typically most dairy herd dispersals are sold from Autumn time right through to Spring with a lesser number sold through the summer period.
Are my livestock brought to a sales ring where they are sold?
No, your livestock stay on your farm. We bring buyers who have a genuine interest in your dairy herd and who have finance in place to pay for them.
How do Grasstec attract interest from potential buyers?
During our initial visit to your farm we will take pictures and videos of your herd allowing us to generate adverts that we can publish on our website and share across our social media platform. Our business has been in existence for over 25 years so we have a large database of farmers who we can contact with groups of cows, heifers and calves we have for sale
Will my name and location be advertised on the advert listed on the website?
No, your name and location are not for general public knowledge. It will only be shared with genuine buyers who express an interest in viewing the animals in person
Do I have to take lots of calls from potential buyers or tyre kickers?
No, we handle all the contact from buyers and provide them with the necessary information about your dairy herd sale.
Who does the negotiation on the price if a buyer is interested?
We will first agree with you a price that you would be happy with for you to sell the herd. With this in mind, we will manage the negotiations with the potential buyers and keep you informed at all times until an agreement is made between you the seller and a buyer.
If I decide to pull out the sale can I decide to hold onto my herd?
At any stage, if you decide now is not the right time to sell your herd you can cancel the herd dispersal sale process and do as you please with your herd. Unlike the pressure in the sales ring, you can decide not to sell and still have the herd of cows on your farm without them having mixed with other livestock with potential disease risks
Will my herd be sold to one buyer or multiple buyers?
Depending on the size of the herd we will minimise the number of buyers. If more than one buyer is required to purchase a herd we will manage the sale such that each buyer will each take an equal spread of ages of animals so that a seller is not left with a bunch of older cows that will be harder to sell. For full dairy herd clearance sales, we can split cows, heifers and calves and sell as individual groups.
When do I get paid for my herd?
You will be paid for your herd sale before any livestock leaves your farm. Usually, a minimum of 24 hours before they move so you have cleared funds in your account.
